Galérer

To work really hard.  Poor Alexandrine was made work really hard by her little Julia when she arrived!  Julia a fait galérer sa mère!  

This word comes from the French word for galley, which is Galére.  The slaves who had to row the galleys had to work really hard, so the verb galérer came into being.  To work like a galley slave.  I will leave it there and not quote the English equivalent which is very politically incorrect!
